Luxchat is a service allowing its users to communicate, between two or more people, instantly, securely and with complete confidence/trust. The service is free, without advertising and without use of users’ personal data, with the greatest respect for their privacy.

Luxchat can be used by Luxembourg residents, cross-border commuters and businesses.

When you first logged in to Luxchat, you received an invitation from our ‘Info’ Bot (What is a Bot ?).

If you accepted this invitation, the Bot gave you your Luxchat-ID.

If you declined the invitation, you can invite the Bot to the directory again.

On mobile applications:

  • Click on the directory button

  • Search for the user or Bot based on their name or Luxchat-ID

  • Select them and click ‘Start’

 

On Windows, mac or web clients:

  • Click on the ‘Search’ field

  • Search for the user or Bot based on its name or its Luxchat-ID

  • Click on the user or Bot to start the chat

Yes, with Luxchat, all communications are end-to-end encrypted.

Messages and attached files are stored encrypted on the secure servers of Luxchat service providers. Absolutely no one other than you and the people you communicated with can read your messages and attached files. Neither the service providers nor anyone else can read your exchanges.

Luxchat is available on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and web.

Yes, it is possible to use Luxchat on multiple devices simultaneously.

  • Luxchat is intended for the population, cross-border workers and businesses;
  • Luxchat4Gov is intended for public sector agents for their professional use.

As part of the Luxchat project, IT infrastructures and data storage are decentralized and under the authority of the different service providers, and separated from the Luxchat4Gov service, dedicated to public sector agents.

Yes, Luxchat and Luxchat4Gov data benefit from the same level of security.

Yes, Luxchat and Luxchat4Gov are interoperable. Regardless of your choice of Luxchat provider, you can communicate with Luxembourg public sector agents including education services (professors, schoolteachers, etc.) who use Luxchat4Gov. To initiate a communication you must know the Luxchat-ID of your correspondent. A common national directory is not available.

Yes, regardless of your choice of Luxchat provider, you can communicate with all Luxchat users of other operators. The services of all Luxchat providers are interoperable and apply the same security and confidentiality rules. You are therefore free to choose between providers, and you can communicate with all users of other providers. In addition, you can also communicate with Luxembourg public sector agents including education services (professors, schoolteachers, etc.) who use Luxchat4Gov, regardless of your Luxchat provider.

No, Luxchat service providers do not have access to your geolocation. The Luxchat application, for its part, can, if you authorize it in your phone’s settings, access your geolocation for the sole purpose of allowing you to send your location to one or more person(s) with whom/ which you communicate. Geolocation information is encrypted, just like other messages you send and receive on Luxchat.

  • Click on your avatar (photo) and select the “User Settings” menu

  • Click on « Security »

  • Click on “Continue with LuxID

  • Enter your LuxID username and password and click on “Connect

  • Enter the code received via SMS and click on “Next

The content of your communications in encrypted form is automatically deleted from the server of your Luxchat service provider no later than 12 months after the date of sending the attached files (voice messages, shared photos and videos) and no later than 24 months after the date of sending for text messages, regardless of whether your account is active or deactivated. The authorized storage capacity per user is 0.5 GB (which corresponds to approximately 100 photos of 5 MB). If the authorized storage capacity per user is exceeded, your Luxchat service provider reserves the right to delete the oldest messages and attached files exceeding the authorized storage capacity limit.
